The module consists of the colloquium only. Students receive 5 credit points for completing the module. Students will create a portfolio during the semester.

After completing the module, Students are able to

·       evaluate their own and others’ research projects with regard to theory, design, practical execution.

·       defend their own opinion publically and appropriately in the context of scientific discourse.

·       engage other students and their projects productively.

This course will take place weekly from the 11.10.2017 - 22.11.2017, from 13:15 - 16:45.

This module (re)introduces students to essential concepts and techniques in experimental psychology and statistics. The focus is on experimental methods and statistical analyses that are commonly employed in developmental psychology. The main goal is for students to be able to read and understand empirical research articles and to understand the methods and statistics employed. This includes constructively criticizing the methods and evaluating the validity of the statistical strategies employed. In addition, students are introduced to the statistics program ‘R’, in which they will get a basic overview of the functions R offers and learn how to handle data within the program.

In this seminar, students get to know theories of child development and learn to evaluate and integrate research findings critically. Students will create a solid knowledge base and gain relevant scientific research literacy by discussing papers, holding own workshops and participating cooperative learning activities. The goal of the seminar is to explore broad theories and to get an overview of existing empirical findings.
