Students will be introduced to essential phenomena, concepts and methods of soft mater theory and its importance in terms of the quantitative description of biological matter. Moreover, general interdisciplinary applications and methods of theoretical physics will be practised.
Essential contents are:
– Statistical physics and thermodynamics for many-particle systems, fluctuations and response
– density functional theory, field theory, functional integrals
– perturbative and non-perturbative methods
– model systems (colloids, hydrodynamics, polymers)
