The seminar focuses on various approaches to identity formation and identity politics. Departing
from different theories of identity the seminar will discuss a number of issues in the
political identity research including collective action, interethnic cooperation, construction of
collective identities and the EU identity politics. Next, these issues will be analyzed in empirical
context of current political developments. Against this backdrop, two key problématiques
will be explored in more depth: identity politics and violence and legitimacy of
identity politics.
