Course Objectives: After successful participation, students will have a good understanding of the concepts and methods of Data Science. They will be enabled to apply relevant procedures of data processing, analysis, and interpretation and apply the acquired knowledge to problems of earth system science and transfer them to new problems.

Course Content

  • basic concepts and methods of data science in earth system sciences
  • methods and applications of multivariate statistics under consideration of the special features of spatiotemporal data in the earth system sciences
  • introduction to methods of machine learning and artificial intelligence and their relevance
