At the start of your BA studies, you are familiarized with the basic academic skills of information retrieval, library and database searches as well as the critical evaluation of (web) resources. The course’s intended hybrid format is designed for digital and in-person lectures alike, allowing you to utilize your own technical equipment, to learn how to access a wide range of scholarly resources using electronic databases, digital libraries and selected text collections. You are introduced to academic standards, including correct citation, and learn about the essential steps of the academic writing process.
Objectives
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
- finding resources using the TU Chemnitz catalogue and EBSCOhost
- evaluating the content and quality of various texts
producing essays in an academic writing style
using a range of academic citation styles
