Proceeding from the skills acquired and tools encountered in the German to English Translation seminar of the previous semester, this course will focus on the challenges involved in translating into one’s L1. Key principles of translation such as equivalence, translatability, strategies of adaptation and target readership orientation, stylistic considerations, etc. will continue to play a role in this course. Since we will not have to deal with basic matters of linguistic accuracy and the “feel for the language” as much in this course, we will have the chance to branch out more in terms of text type, terminology and complexity.
