Goals:

Students are familiar with the concepts and methods used to characterize and describe nanoscale forms of matter in the size range from single atoms to  solids.

Content:

Classification and production of clusters, size-dependent cluster properties, non-scalable regime . Noble gas, molecular, metal, ionic and microsolvated clusters. Experimental characterisation of cluster, characterisation of cluster properties in the gas phase and on surfaces: mass spectrometry, laser spectroscopy and scanning microscopy. Clusters in the atmosphere, catalytic properties of deposited clusters, cluster beam synthesis of nanostructured materials.
