Cultural Identities and the Classroom: Britishness and All That

This course is specifically designed for teacher students and meant to refresh your knowledge of various aspects of British culture and society, as well as approaches in the field of Cultural Studies, partly in preparation for the upcoming Staatsexamen finals. In an introductory session, we are going to discuss your own needs and interests in this context, and will then set up a collaborative course plan covering these aspects (perhaps loosely grouped around the concept of Britishness). The course will include examples from a variety of identities and cultural fields as well as different media. It will also make use of the cultural topics covered in textbooks for English which you will work with in your future job as teachers.
