Transforming Museums: An attempt of Feminist Museology. Marina Vinnik.
This course will revolve around feminist approaches to curating, museology, and archival research. We will touch on new materialism, gender theory, museology, decolonial theory, and post-humanist studies. First, we will examine social media approaches to the museum and look into the ways in which museums are represented and explore the museum as an experience. Then we will look into the theories of feminist museology and ask what a feminist approach to the museum or archive can look like. Finally, this course will offer practical experience in which we will engage with the local scene of Leipzig through such institutions as MdBK (Museum der bildenden Künste) and the HGB (Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig): through archives and exposed collections we will focus on the objects and the way they create narratives at the museum or academy.
