In this seminar, we attend to the growing field of science diplomacy and the different ways of relating the “sciences” (all academic disciplines) and diplomacy. We do so by examining the reasons/benefits, potentials, and challenges of science diplomacy and by critically analysing current approaches, practices, and institutions/actors. We furthermore take a look at particular national strategies and organisations (e.g. in Germany) and bilateral/multilateral interdisciplinary projects. This shall include, for instance, questions around water diplomacy or diplomacy and educational research. We finally also reflect on skills recommended when working in the field of science diplomacy. A good level of English (reading, writing, speaking) is necessary/recommended to attend the course.
