This seminar focusses on knowledge production in the context of global inequality through the analytical lens of a Theory of/from the South. We will explore diverse theoretical critical approaches, concepts and academic voices associated with the “South”. We will learn how multiple post-colonial trajectories converge into an imagined entity commonly described as the “(Global) South”, interconnecting African, Asian, Latin American, and Eastern European spaces. We will problematise universal(ised) knowledge production connected to narratives of “modernity”, a history of “progress” and “development”, the “nation-state”,  or “human rights”. The course will address power related to hegemony, colonialism, and coloniality, and discuss decolonising attempts in diverse contexts.
