Today we are keenly aware that history, perhaps in its most important form, is a narration. Therefore it seems once more plausible to approach “the past” through story, even more so, if we have little knowledge about it, as children do. Children`s fiction inspired by history focuses on the creation of tangible and immersive reading experiences, which encourages and complements interest in historical events. In this seminar we want to discover the past through historical children`s fiction and time-slip fantasy. Amongst other things, we will read us into Roman Britain, witness Arthurian magic, discover the "true" reason for the signing of the Magna Carta, and participate in the Peasants Revolt of 1381 from the perspective of a dog.
