This module deals with the questions "What is a region?", and "What practical and conceptual approaches are there to regions?"
The lecture gives an overview of the history of different constructions of the region in politics and science and their social consequences. How do regions and regions develop? How have cultures, localities and people positioned themselves to the dominant ideas of the region? How are regions experienced in practice, appropriated, ignored and reinterpreted? A second thematic block deals with academic access to regions. Students learn about different approaches to regional phenomena. An overview of various approaches to the study of the regions will be given using concrete examples.
